NYC Theater SLAM is currently requesting submissions for its sporadic late Saturday night performances designed for artists in New York. On the SLAM performance night, 10-15 original short works of all kinds will be presented. Tickets will be $10 and for every patron that arrives to see your presentation, $3 will go to you and your group as a payment.

SLAM Concept

• All performances must be 2-20 minutes in length.
  

• There will be no set. The only things provided will be a few chairs. Tech will be extremely low, without even turning on and off of the lights. The playing space will be right next to the audience and well-lit. Performers must be able to set up the play in 30 seconds while the Emcee is covering for them.
  

• The coordinator will neither cast nor rehearse the shows, but will merely provide a paying venue for their work. Thus, short performances with small casts are obviously preferred. All responsibility for rehearsal and casting is placed on the submitter.
  

• For Actor's Equity Association performers, please note the SLAM is non-Equity and must, use original, unpublished works in performance. This is supposed to be a rough-cut set of performances, not polished or perfectly finished. It is designed for the actor, playwright and director who is starting out or who has begun to gain a number of contacts, skills, and experiences. I will try to obtain Equity showcase agreements in the future, but for the currently scheduled SLAMs, we do not have the required time.
  

• Scheduling is dependent on acceptance by the producer. Content can range from the touching to the outrageous, but nudity is restricted. The producer will try to arrange the order of material in an appropriate manner, and the order will be fixed before the time of performance.
  

• Payments from the door will be regulated by the coordinator as people arrive. Each person who pays will be given a sheet which will contain the names of the shows of the evening. The performance they choose will receive their $3. Out of town artists, therefore, will have a tough time of it.
  

• Call time for all performers is 7:00 SHARP for 8:00 show. We must get completely organized and you'll will not be able to go on unless you are fully checked in by 7:30.
  

• All tickets are purchased at the door. There are no advance sales. The house can comfortably seat up to 60 people, so there is no need to reserve space.
  

• Promotional material will be the purview of the groups coming into the space. The Coordinator will do his best to get people in the space, however, since this is OOB, we need all the help we can get.
  

• There will be a table provided to publicize your shows and to place your headshots, resumes and flyers. This SLAM is designed around shameless promotion for you and your work.
  

• Distribution of payment to the group will be the responsibility of the primary point of contact for the performance, typically the playwright or director. All groups will be informed of the policy of payment from the door before the show opens. All payments will be made in cash and distributed to the groups at the end of the evening.
  

• You may comp in only the playwright, the director, and industry professionals. All industry professionals must give a business card at the door and contact the Artistic Coordinator in advance (by 8:00 of the evening of performance). Remember, if someone is comped in, you will not receive $3 for their attendance. The cut from the door is strictly dependent on ticket purchase.
  

• The goal is 2-3 hours of material. Concessions will be available for a small donation.
  

• Technical issues such as lights and sound must be kept to a bare minimum. All sound cues will consist of a portable stereo brought in by the performing group. The lighting plot is track lighting used for art studios, and there is no theatrical lighting capability. Thus you will walk on in light and walk off in light. The EmCee will cover for you in both instances.
  

• Access to the performance space will be one hour before the start time of the show.

  
  

• You are free to drop by the space anytime, and look from the outside only. You cannot go in since the space is used regularly by many other private groups. All contacts for the space should go directly to me, Jason Kendall.

Ken is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and is an actor, writer, and composer. In this space, Ken recently produced his musical GoD?. The American Dream Party has as its core mission to help all people achieve their goals and to help get goverment out of their way. Whether they to be artists or stock brokers, New York is a vibrant community and its diversity is its strength. All people from the Bronx to Staten Island need to have their turn at the American Dream.
